Exercises

This section of the Body Gallery demonstrates some of the apparatus used in the Pilates Method and a few examples of exercises associated with the apparatus.

Push Through is an all-time favorite stretch that truly lengthens the spine and stretches the back of the legs, especially the hamstrings. When assisted by an instructor, a client can gently explore his/her own limit in the extension and flexion of this exercise.

Overhead challenges the lats, lower abdominals and core while simultaneously elongating the spine, hamstrings and toning the triceps.

Long Stretch works the pecs, serratus anterior, lats, abdominals, erectors, hamstrings and glutes while strengthening the shoulder stabilizers.

Full Swan opens the chest and stretches the pecs while strengthening the lats, triceps, rhomboids, back extensors and glutes.

Parakeet strengthens the abdominals, hamstrings, adductors, gluteus medius, hip flexors and lats while stretching out the hamstrings and deep flexors of the spine.

Double Leg Pumps on the chair strengthens the quadriceps, psoas, hamstrings and glutes while working the abdominals and postural muscles. The Magic Circle variation ads lat work.

Side Arm Series can be modified in a seated position for the prenatal client. This series strengthens the deltoids, lats and triceps while working the abdominals.

Pike w/Twist strengthens the back, arms and abdominals (especially the obliques).

Side Stretch stretches the quadratus lumborum, external obliques and the intercostals.

Teaser is an advanced exercise that strengthens the abdominals and hip flexors while working the postural muscles, lats, inner thighs and hip rotators. It also stretches the chest and anterior shoulder muscles such as the pecs, deltoid and intercostals.

Swan on the Barrel is a fun and more advanced variation of Swan on the Cadillac.

Sometimes we just laugh!

We always get back to work, The Single Lat Pull strengthens the lats.

We like to pull out all the toys at The Body Gallery! Side Glutes Series on the Body Ball strengthens core abdominals, glutes, abbductors and adductors.
